Domestic Violence Impacts Victims

Spring is happening in Colorado. I’m finding myself wandering outside to
peek at all the new growth coming up in the yard.  While some of us enjoy the newness of spring, others are still looking for answers to solve ongoing problems.

Dear Abby provided a very helpful article in her column March 25, 2011 on
the “signs of abuse”.  The enormous impacts of domestic violence on victims can paralyze a victim into staying in an abusive relationship or just giving up.  This is not the only option when you understand the short and long-term impacts of abuse on the victim.

Beyond knowing about the signs of abuse, learn how to help victims recover and build a safe, stable, life without further abuse. The cycle of violence is the key to understanding how the abuse continues in relationships. You gain an understanding of the reinforcing nature of violence and the impact
on the victim. Find out what issues victims bring to relationships and how the batterer manipulates these issues to perpetuate domestic violence.
