Focuses on the types of Cognitive Distortions and Thinking Errors commonly found in domestic abusers and coercive controllers interactions. Interventions are provided with interactive role plays to help the advocate assist the survivor to understand and respond to abuser’s continued cognitive distortions.

All or Nothing Thinking–“If I can’t have you, nobody can.”
Blaming–“If you made the kids pick up after themselves, I wouldn’t have to throw away their toys.”
Shoulds–“You should know how I like my chicken cooked without me having to tell you.”

Support survivors to avoid colluding with cognitive distortions of abusers
Practice untwisting distorted statements of abusers
PREREQUISITE: A sophisticated understanding of the complexities of Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control, and the basics of survivor-centered victim advocacy
